(here's why) *Sponsored Starfighters Space operates what the company describes as the world's only commercial fleet of flight-ready F-104 Mach 2+ supersonic aircraft, with operations based at Kennedy Space Center and Midland International Air & Space Port. The company is focused on areas including hypersonic testing, air-launch development, and pilot and astronaut training. One key advantage is that Starfighters owns and operates its aircraft rather than relying on access to a third-party flight platform. Three developments I'm watching: • Blackstar Orbital – Partnership to flight-test Blackstar's reusable SpaceDrone hypersonic system using the F-104 platform, with supersonic captive-carry testing planned for Q4 FY2026 and potential future high-altitude release testing over the Eastern Range. • Vaya Defense & Space – MOU to evaluate Vaya's Vortex-Hybrid rocket engine for Starfighters' STARLAUNCH air-launch platform and to explore potential hypersonic captive-carry testing. • The Bionetics Corporation – MOU covering the integration and processing of pathfinder small payloads for future F-104 missions.
